"Ukiyo — the floating world. A philosophy of living with intention, undisturbed by the rush around it."

Behind Studio Ukiyo

Studio Ukiyo is built and run by two people, Sabien and Tjerk. We do all of it ourselves — design, testing, sourcing the fabrics and colours, photography, socials, building the webshop. Every decision on fit, fabric, and finish runs through the same idea we started with: clothing should be considered, not chased.

Studio Ukiyo grew out of two existing creative practices meeting in the middle — Tjerk’s background in web and graphic design through tjrk., and Sabien’s eye for photography and social media through Studio Bien. Somewhere in that overlap, the idea for a clothing label took shape, and without knowing where it would lead, we decided to dive in.

About Studio Ukiyo

Studio Ukiyo takes its name from the Japanese idea of ukiyo — the floating world — a way of living fully in the present, detached from trend and noise. It’s the outlook behind everything we make: fewer things, chosen with intention, built to be worn rather than displayed.

Designed in the Netherlands, our pieces are shaped by a quiet, considered aesthetic — clean lines, calm proportions, nothing added for the sake of it. We ask a simple question of every design: will this still make sense in five years. If not, it doesn’t make the collection.

Materials and construction are chosen with the same restraint. We favour fabrics that feel good against the skin and hold their shape over time, and we work with makers who take the same care with process that we take with design.

Studio Ukiyo isn’t seasonal clothing. It’s for people who’ve already decided what they value — quality over quantity, quiet over noise — and who recognise that same intention in the way something is made.
